To speak in obsolute terms requires that your argument be absolute, and there’s too many what ifs. HDMI is HDMI is in general…in theory..not in absolute. All cars in theory do the same thing. It gets you from A to B. But if I ranted for hours on how a Kia is the same as a Ferrari, they both drive and use gas, I would sound like you. You buy a Kia because you’re broke, you buy a Ferrari because you want performance and prestige. If you have a smaller set 40″ or smaller, then yes, seeing the difference between HDMI and even component cables are hard to see. But step up and pay some money for your gear in the first place, or even a theater with screens in excess of 100″ and your ranting sounds like a frustrated, underpaid dummy (fud) who’s trying to justify being cheap.
Here is where I back up with hard facts not theories. I have been in the a/v business since VCRs. Again on a small screen, results don’t vary as much – GRANTED.
Step up and move out of your mothers house and buy a home with a Theater and not only can you tell the difference between them, but you can tell the difference between even the high end cables. For instance, the M-Series 850 uses a lower gauge of silver, where the M-1000 used a larger gauge of silver. A $100 dollar cable vs. a $150 dollar cable. The M850 while excellent, does not have the shadow detail that the M1000 has. The M1000 is also MORE detailed than the M850 on my 133″ screen and it doesn’t take an expert to see the difference, just eyes the GREATEST instrument for measuring depth and detail in real world use. I tried the Audioquest X HDMI which has a high silver content and it had very similar performance as the M1000, so I deduce it’s the silver that’s making the difference in these. We’re talking higher end cables. I also have AR HDMI that are certified ($39.99 3′) Looked good, but no where near the better cables. Again a Kia will drive, but no where near a Ferrari.
And finally, for the RECORD, one of my customers spent in excess of 15k on his system (Pioneer Elite 60″, Pioneer Elite Bluray, Pioneer Elite Receiver, Definitive Speakers, installion the whole nine). Sounds good right until he listened to someone tell him, “IT’S ALL THE SAME, I GUARRANTEE THESE HDMI CABLES WILL WORK”. He thought he could save money by LISTENING to the Geek who thinks in 1′s and 0′s and doesn’t live in reality. Long story short, system errors kept arising. Replaced cables with same, again problems. I finally went out in snow to his house replaced with PROPER HDMI cables, PROBLEM solved. Not only was the picture perfect, but haven’t heard from him since. If you’re system calls for it, PAY the money, it’s worth it.

I am an audiophile/videophile wanting to get the most out of my system so I bought an M1000 8 foot cable to go from my receiver to my professionally calibrated 55″ 1080p sony sxrd TV and a 4 foot M1000 to go from my Panasonic bd35 Blu-Ray player to the receiver. This cable made a BIG improvement over the bluejeans hdmi cable that was recommmended on the AVS Forum. The M series hdmi cable gave the picture a 3D appearance that was lacking with the bluejeans cables. Colors were more vivid, the picture had more detail and overall the picture was brighter! While watching the Matrix with the bluejeans hdmi cables, detail was lost in dark shadows especially on faces and clothing but when I switched to the M series hdmi cables detail on clothing and faces in the dark shadows were now visible! I was really surprised to get that level of improvement over the highly recommended bluejeans cables. On the audio side, imaging and depth had definitely improved plus bass was tighter) My equipment is not budget but fairly expensive(PSB Image Series speakers,PSB subseries 8 subwoofer,Onkyo 805 receiver, Sony 55″ SXRD HDTV, Panasonic bd35 blu-ray player). This cable offers outstanding performance but like all Monster products is overpriced. I just had to try these M series hdmi cables out when seeing them offered BRAND NEW by a third party seller on Amazon for over 50% off the MSRP. These cables were worth every penny I paid for them and A definite must have for any audiophile/videophile.
