Perhaps … the key phrase is “will you hear a difference?”
If our ears were absolute frequency range measureing instruments, you would …. but in an imperfect world, you may not. I know that I hear a difference between analogue and digital media … like when they remasted the Steely Dan cd’s.
If you can grab your cables, go see your buddy at the electronic store and he’ll let you listen … you should be able to be true to yourself.
Do not even bother with Monster’s overpriced cables.
For speaker wire, just snag some all copper, 14 gauge ones at Home Depot, they will be perfectly fine.
For interconnects, like subwoofer cables or stereo patch cables. Look at brands like Acoustic Research in store to save you money. Online, Blue Jean Cables (BlueJeanCables.com) are great cables at a exceptional value.
All these cables are going to be on par with Monster Cables with out paying the markup.
EDIT: Isn’t it great when you can pull numbers out of your ass? Fact of the matter, AR cables are just as good as Monster but cost less. It is as simple as that, there is no need to spend the extra cash.
As far as speaker wires, Home Depot is no more crap than any other speaker wires. I guess ignorance is bliss. As long as it is copper and around 14 gauge, it will be just fine for your speakers. All these marketing terms other manufactures throw around are esstentially just that, marketing, aka bullcrap.
Stereo Review magazine did a double blind test years ago to see if different cables made a difference in quality of sound. No one was able to tell the expensive from inexpensive cables. Just be sure to buy thicker cables as they have less resistance.
with asony reciever and those speakers do not spend alot on the cables. I use qed silver which is brill and its not expensive. for the sub you only need an average quality connect as only the low frequncy gets fed into the sub.
Discernable differences between audio “quality” is a matter of great subjectivity – you first need to define what your end objective is and then backtrack to the many variables and see if each of them help you achieve the quality differences you are looking for. Speaker cable is just one of those many elements. (If you’re not clear as to what you’re looking for, how will you know once you’ve found it?)
Altering speaker placement, room acoustics, interconnect cables, speaker cables etc. will make huge a difference to one set of ears and a barely audible to another. The point is, take your time, learn about how these things impact sound and settle on what works for you. There’s no right or wrong here – it’s purely a matter of personal preferences.
wow thats funny he says dont waste ur money on “overpriced monster” but to get acoustic research.
Last time i checked acoustic research had about 80% margin whereas monster has about 30-40%
Anyways
Dont use home depot POS speaker cable.
ur equipment is only as good as the cables u use to interconnect them.
Now whether u use monster or AR or belkin. Make sure its atleast Decent quality.
I will tell you there is a huge difference and its upto u to belive or not.
If you’re going to buy expensive wire, buy Audioquest speaker wire. Their isn’t a stranded speaker wire on the market (Monster, Ixos, etc.) that sounds as good as Audioquest, which has a solid core.
